How to recognise real, pure honey
Crystallisation, smell, origin: the simple signs that help you avoid fake honey.
Fake or diluted honey is common, and home “tests” with water or fire are not reliable. These signs are more useful.
1. Know who made it
A beekeeper can tell you which flowers, which region and which season. If nobody can answer, be careful.
2. Crystallisation is a good sign
Most real honeys crystallise with time, especially in winter. A honey that stays perfectly liquid for years may have been heated or mixed.
3. Smell and taste
Real honey smells of its flowers: thyme honey smells of thyme, Sidr of caramel. A flat, only-sweet taste is a warning.
4. A fair price
Rare honeys like Doghmous or Sidr have small harvests. A very low price for them is rarely honest.
